ABOUT AYUSH

The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani,Siddha and Homoepathy.

The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani,Siddha and Homoepathy. Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) was created in March,1995 and re-named as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November, 2003 with a view to provide Healthcare, Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homoepathy Systems. The Department continued to lay emphasis on improving health care facilities, upgrading AYUSH Educational standards and also creating awareness about AYUSH. Govt of Karnataka has taken initiative in mainstreaming of AYUSH in National Health Care under NRHM in right earnest.

    The AYUSH systems are time-tested methods to tackle life style disorders which are becoming a major threat to health in present era.These systems play major role not only in preventing the diseases but in curative aspect too. AYUSH system give a holistic approach to health systems there by boosting the whole health system in the society. Hence it is necessary to Popularize, Review, Revitalize, the AYUSH system by giving proper infrastructure, Human Resource, training, etc. AYUSH systems of Medicines are well accepted by community, particularly in rural areas because these are socially acceptable, comparatively safe and efficacious and easily available which can be prepared locally from the available resources. By this it is possible to make these systems accessible to the people in general and patients in particular.

    The Department of AYUSH rendering effective services in health care both curative and preventive,has got its own health services wing in the AYUSH system of medicine like own medical education department, drug manufacturing unit, drug licensing authority and registration board to assist its pioneering nature of work.

   The Director of AYUSH is the administrative and executive head of the AYUSH department and one Joint Director for Medical Education, three Deputy Directors have been designated for Ayurveda, Unani & Homoepathy. GradeI physician for Yoga, an Administrative officer and an Accounts officer are working in the Directorate. The District AYUSH officers have been appointed in each district to implement and monitor the programmers effectively at a regular basis.. The whole team of these Officers are working who have been guided by the Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare and all the AYUSH programmes are being operated under the chairmanship of principal Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka.
