BACKWARD CLASSES WELFARE DEPARTMENT

The Government of Karnataka has taken several measures for the educational and economic advancement of the Backward Classes, under Articles 15(4) and 16(4) of the Constitution of India. As per Government order No.  SWD 225 BCA 2000  dt: 30.03.2002,  28% reservation has been provided to Backward Classes,  in admission to professional courses and in State Government appointments. The Category-wise percentage of reservation provided , is as given below.

   Government of Karnataka has enacted, Karnataka SC, ST and OBC Act 1990, with effect from 1.6.1992, for enforcing the reservation provided to Backward Classes people. With a view to ensure proper implementation of reservation provided to Backward Classes under Art 15(4) and 16(4),  Guidance Bureau is established in the Department. The Inspecting team of the Bureau, will inspect unit offices of  recruitment authorities and Educational Institutions.  Action will be taken to set right the anomalies noticed  in reservation norms etc.,. The Department of Backward Classes Welfare is implementing various educational and economic schemes ,  for the upliftment  of Backward Classes.
