​​​​​​Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)​


In a meeting with Chairman, KJA, Chief Secretary, GoK mentioned about the importance of UAV technology and expressed the need to undertake a good assessment study on UAV technology, applications and policy development planning by KKC.  This was discussed in the Second meeting of the KJA held on September 22, 2014 wherein Members agreed that the study is of relevance to KJA and GoK and approved to pursue further.  To take this forward, Chairman, KJA suggested organising a discussion/workshop where experts can be invited for engaging in a scoping discussion on a possible KJA study on UAV technology, application and policies. Based on the outcome from this initial discussion/workshop, a possible KJA Study Group can be established to ensure submission of  a good KJA Report on UAS to GoK. This report could help Karnataka take a lead in this niche-and nascent area keeping in mind its tremendous benefits and potentials.

 

Further Actions

  • ​A​​ discussion was held with Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), Karnataka Chapter, GITAM University and with Jain University for conducting a 1-Day workshop. IEI informed that the Jain University (with Rotary Club) is organizing a demonstration of UAS system on March 6, 2015 in Jain Campus and suggested KJA to consider having a 1-Day workshop  around  that time as all the experts will be available. Accordingly a formal proposal for conducting the workshop was sought from Jain University.

  • Jain University submitted a proposal-Knowledge Workshop: Civilian Applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems-in collaboration with IEI (India), Karnataka Chapter, National Institute of Advanced Studies and GITAM University to conduct the 1-Day workshop on March 7, 2015 in Jain University campus.

  • Proposal was reviewed and Chairman, KJA-TC and Chairman, KJA-MC endorsed and approved the proposal.

  • The workshop and deomonstration was held on March 7, 2015 at Jain University campus off Kanakapura Road. The objectives set for the workshop were-

    • Review the technology aspects of UAS

    • Review the civilian application potentials of UAS

    • Discuss policy perspective of UAS

    • Address far-reaching aspects of UAS technologies
