Activities of the Federation:
1) Fish seed production rearing and supply: Karnataka State Co-operative Fisheries Federation has its fish seed production and rearing centre at Bidarahalli for enabling to take up fish seed production and rearing in order to cater and supply fish seed demands of the primary fisherman co-operative societies for taking up fish culture in tanks and reservoirs.
2) Tanks/Reservoirs fisheries development: Karnataka Co-operative Fisheries Federation(Ltd.), Mysore as an Apex Federation at the state level and its members primary fishermen co-operative societies at the grass root level have obtained lease of Tanks/Reservoirs from the Department of Fisheries and venturing in fish culture.
3) Marketing of fresh fish through ‘‘KIOSKS’’: The Federation has taken up a programme of marketing of fish through a network of 125 retail fish marketing stalls (KIOSKS) spread over in the districts of Mysore, Bangalore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Ramnagar, Hassan and Coorg districts. The Federation arranges procurement of fish from the member co-operative societies and private fish producers providing with reasonable supporting prices and cater fish supplies through these stalls to consumers at fair price. In these stalls, marketing is done through unemployed youths, women and entrepreneurs of weaker sections. Local availability of quality fish as a protein rich diet at fair and reasonable price in hygienic condition to the consumers is the major contribution of these retail fish stalls. The annual turnover from marketing of fish is around ` 3.50 crores.
4) Ice plants and Cold storage: The Federation is having Ice plants of its own in Mysore, Raichur and Haveri town with the production capacity of 6 tones each per day. This facilitates the Federation and member co-operatives to procure and market the fish in hygienic condition to the general public.
