(Support to women for Training and Employment) (A centrally sponsored scheme)

Support to women for Training and Employment Programme (STEP) was transferred to the Corporation by the Women and Child Development Department during 1999-2000. Under the scheme, financial assistance is extended by the Government of India to set up Training cum Production Centres in the sectors of Agriculture, Dairying, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, KVI, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Sericulture, Social Forestry and Waste Land Development. The objectives of the scheme are to provide training for skill upgradation and allow women access to credit to take up employment cum income generating activities. The target group to be covered are women wage labourers, women belonging to SC / ST and women BPL. A minimum of 500 and maximum of 10000 women can be covered in each project.
STEP is implemented through registered public sector organisations, Government and non-Government organisations, Federations, Co-operatives, and Voluntary Organisations. Monitoring the economic status of trained beneficiaries is the responsibility of the NGO implementing the Project.
