Objectives

Road Safety Cell is to play a proactive role of advisor, reviewer for standards & procedures having bearing on road safety issues across the State and monitor for implementation of recommendations regarding road safety audits, trainings, campaigns and data management tools. Road Safety Cell shall play a role of catalyst and facilitator to coordinate and bring institutional and infrastructure improvements to ensure implementation of road safety programmes and establishment of a Road Safety Fund and for matters connected therewith and incidental thereto on following focused areas:

  • Safer roads
  • Safer vehicles
  • Change in attitude of road users
  • Continuous enforcement using evidence based intelligent systems
  • Pre-Hospital & post-crash response systems
  • Establishment of integrated Road Accident Data Management System for stakeholder Departments and
  • Transfer of knowledge to enhance capacity of the stakeholder Departments


Dist. Road Safety Committees have also been created at District level under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioners. They have been entrusted with the job of promoting Road Safety with special emphasis on paying attention to accident prone spots, maintenance of roads, drivers'training, publicity initiatives, traffic planning, passenger amenities etc.
