Activities of State Planning Board (SPB) during 2014-15

Preparation of Policies/Reports - The Transgender Policy for the State of Karnataka and the State Policy for the Empowerment of Women were drafted and finalised and submitted to the Department of Women and Child Development. The Honourable Chief Minister in his Budget speech for 2015-16 has announced that the Transgender Policy for the State will be implemented. As per the instructions of the erstwhile Planning Commission, the Policy for the Voluntary Sector in Karnataka has been drafted and submitted to the Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department, Government of Karnataka. The Millennium Development Goals Report for the State of Karnataka was prepared and submitted to the Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department, Government of Karnataka.

 

Research Studies - One of the functions of the State Planning Board is to sponsor research studies on relevant and important subjects. In this regard the following has been done –

The studies which have been completed are : (i) Monograph on the Status of Women in Karnataka; (ii) Study on Migration, Informal Work and Welfare: a Policy Perspective On Karnataka’s Cities.

 

A Comprehensive Study on Social and Economic Development of Minorities in Karnataka has been initiated. The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has taken up this study and has submitted the inception report. It is an on-going study. Two instalments for the study have been released.

The Request for Proposal and Terms of Reference for 3 studies (i) Status of Children in Karnataka; (ii) Status of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka and (iii) Impact of Joint Forest Management Committee in Karnataka were prepared and submitted to the Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department, Government of Karnataka.

 

Other Initiatives 

  1. A meeting with the non-official members of the State Planning Board was conducted under the Chairmanship of the Honourable Deputy Chairman, SPB on 5th December, 2014 to discuss various measures to strengthen implementation of the Plan schemes in the State and their proper review and evaluation.
  2. A team of officers of the State Planning Board led by Deputy Chairman, SPB visited Chennai on 8th December, 2014 to discuss the success of various developmental and welfare programmes being implemented in Tamil Nadu and also the functioning of Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission. The team visited office of the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, Amma Canteen and Amma Pharmacy and had discussions with the nodal Departments implementing the schemes of Amma Canteen, Amma Pharmacy and Amma Mineral Water. A Report has been submitted to the Honourable Chief Minister, Karnataka on the scope of implementing similar welfare schemes in Karnataka.
  3.  The State Planning Board has partially funded for the 22nd AERA Conference by University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur held on 18th,19th and 20th November, 2014. The theme of the Conference was Development Paradigm of Hyderabad-Karnataka region with the particular focus on agriculture and allied sectors. The State Planning Board has also partially funded Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) for an International Seminar on  “Natural Resource and National Accounts in South Asia”, held in ISEC on 5th and 6th February, 2015. The State Planning Board also co-sponsored International Conference on Community Empowerment in Changing World- Issues and Challenges conducted by Mysore University.
  4. The second meeting with non-official members was held on 2nd February, 2015 under the chairmanship of the Honourable Deputy Chairman, KSPB and deliberated upon various welfare programmes and developmental initiatives for the State of Karnataka. ​
