The State of Karnataka has about 29000 villages and possesses about 190 lakhs hectares of land, out of which about 106 lakhs hectares of land is being cultivated in all the three seasons in a year. 

This division in the Directorate is entrusted with the responsibility of collection, compilation, analysis and presentation of data season wise on the crops grown. This Directorate is considered as State Agriculture Statistical Authority (SASA) by the Govt. of India.

The main functions of the division are to prepare the following season wise reports.

1. Crop Forecasts.
2. Annual Season and Crop Statistics.(ASCR).
3. Reconciliation of Crop Area Statistics.
4. Timely Reporting of Area Estimates of Principal Crops.
5. Improvement of Crop Statistics (ICS).​
