STATISTICS is one of the tools for decision making process in the expanding area of development programmes. The State Government has amalgamated all Statistical work of Agriculture, Public Health and administration & intelligence section from the Secretariat Department. A separate department was formed in 1955 as State Statistical Bureau. Subsequently the State Statistical Bureau was designated as the Directorate of Statistics in 1961. In recognition of increased responsibilities and the vital role the department was re-designated in 1968 as Bureau of Economics and Statistics and accordingly declared as a major Technical Department in 1969.
