Details of surface water quality monitoring taken up under HP-I by theWater Quality (Level-2) Laboratories @ Krishnarajasagara and Munirabad
Under National Hydrology project-I, Level II Water Quality Laboratory at Krishnarajasagar and Munirabad have been set up to monitor water quality aspects of southern and Northern Karnataka region respectively. These labs have started functioning from April 2000 and April-2002 respectively.
" The rivers monitored under this programme are Cauvery, Kabini, Arkavathy, Shimsha, Hemavathy, Netravathy, and Bhadra.in southern Karnataka region.
" Similarly, the rivers monitored under this programme are Tungabhadra, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Krishna, Don, Bhima andManjra in Northern Karnataka region.
" The rivers Kabini, Arkavathy, Shimsha, Hemavathy are tributaries of Cauvery.
" River Netravathy is a west flowing river.
" River Bhadra, Tungabhadra, Ghataprabha, Malaprabha, Don, Bhima and Manjra falls in the Krishna river basin.
" The river water samples are collected once in two months and their quality parameters are analyzed at Level-2 Water Quality Laboratories situated at Krishnarajasagara .and Munirabad
The quality of water of these rivers are being analysed and this is being continued even now to create a database of river water quality.
" In addition to routine Hydrology Project studies, water samples of Reservoirs referred by concerned project authorities are also analysed for leaching of lime in drainage galleries.
