The administration of the Institute is vested in the Governing Council (GC) constituted by the Government of Karnataka under the Chairmanship of Principal Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Horticulture and Sericulture. To assist the GC, a Finance Committee (FC) under the Chairmanship of the Commissioner for Sericulture Development and Director of Sericulture, Government of Karnataka, Research Advisory Committee (RAC) under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Agricultural Sciences are constituted. Four separate subject specific committees viz., Mulberry, Silkworm, Silk Technology Divisions and Extension & Training Wing which screens the research projects proposed by the Scientists and reviews the progress. The overall administration of the institute vests with the Director.
The non-plan budgetary requirement of the Institute is provided by the Government of Karnataka in the form of Grant-In-Aid. The Institute also receives some financial assistance from external funding agencies like Department of Science and Technology (DST), Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of GOI, NABARD etc., against specific research proposals. Under Public Private Partnership (PPP) program, technology innovators also provide funds for testing, evaluation and also for developing joint collaborative technologies. Funds under Rashtriya Krishi Vikasa Yojanae (RKVY) are also provided for research activities. In addition, the Institute also generates income on its own through activities like license fee and royalty against commercialization of technologies and products developed by the Institute. The Institute welcomes donations.
